Meet Kristina
Kristina Ayanian
Kristina Ayanian is 15 years old and resides in Burlington, MA. She won the state title in February at the annual scholarship pageant
competition in New Bedford. She is the daughter of Lousine and Serdak Ayanian. In the fall, Kristina will be a junior at Burlington High School. A high honor roll student for the past four years, she is enrolled in all honors level classes. A two-time recipient of the Presidential Outstanding Academic Excellence Award, she has also has received awards for Citizenship, Spanish and Sportsmanship. Her first language was Armenian and she is a proud graduate of St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School. Kristina is fluent in both English and Armenian and is currently enrolled in Honors Spanish 3 with the intention of becoming fluent in a third language. She received the Prelacy Award for Excellence in Armenian studies. Kristina is the recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Level Award and is currently working towards the Silver Level Award. At Burlington High School, she is a member of the Principal’s Advisory Board and is a Certified Alcohol Education Instructor for the Burlington public schools. She also is a member of the varsity field hockey and track teams. Kristina has been training in dance, piano, acting, and voice for many years and has received numerous awards and recognition in each area. She has been in many community and professional theater productions – but, playing the piano is her passion and she has been privileged to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She is also a corresponding reporter for Teen Kids News on the ABC Network. She is a short story contest winner and has been published in the Anthology of Short Stories by Young Americans. Volunteerism has played a very important role in Kristina’s life. She has volunteered for many different organizations and charities since early childhood. She initiated the Our Young Stars program; visited and brought financial help and English-language books to orphanages in Armenia; and visited and distributed stuffed animals and books to pediatric patients at Massachusetts General Hospital that could not go home for the holidays on Christmas day. Kristina is using her title as Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen to spread awareness through her platform entitled Food Is Not A Privilege, It Is A Right ~ Fighting Hunger Today. Her year of service will be devoted to educating and spreading awareness of the problem of hunger in our communities. She advocates for local food banks and programs that provide nutritious food supplements for needy families. She has worked with the Project Bread Organization and their Walk for Hunger and raises funds and food donations through initiatives she has created such as a Mother-Daughter Luncheon and her Music for Food program with area performing arts schools. Her future plans are to graduate from high school and then attend college where she will major in Broadcasting. Ultimately she hopes to receive her PhD in Communications. Her career ambition is to become a Sports Broadcast Journalist. In August, Kristina will represent the Commonwealth in Orlando, Florida as she competes for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2013.
